Meet Jack, Director of Engineering

Jack Schoonover is a highly skilled analog circuit designer with a passion for modular synthesizers and real-time sound manipulation. Jack’s journey began in his early years playing in punk bands, becoming the ersatz recording engineer after others balked at the opportunity. This hands-on experimentation led him to further immerse himself in music technology during his time at university, where access to advanced synthesizer systems like the Serge Modular and ARP 2600 shaped his career trajectory.

After graduating, Jack transitioned from playing to designing and building, embarking on a self-driven exploration of modular synthesis. His commitment to crafting innovative audio circuitry led him to design and assemble his own Eurorack system, fueling his ongoing passion for analog synthesis. This expertise in analog circuit design is now applied at MEGA, where Jack leads the design and production of cutting-edge devices, from circuit layouts to final assembly.

Beyond his work at MEGA, Jack is deeply involved in the creative process, continuously designing new modular synth modules and performing live modular sets. His work bridges the gap between technical precision and creative expression, reflecting a commitment to exploring the boundaries of sound. With several designs in progress, Jack remains driven by the desire to expand the modular synth world while remaining at the forefront of industry innovation.

Jack’s creative endeavors are intrinsically tied to his professional work, with his passion for modular synthesizers continuing to fuel his contributions at MEGA. While his focus remains firmly on sound design, Jack is always open to exploring new hobbies, as this one has become more serious than anticipated!
